I have a radio that takes 4.5v adapter. Why is a 4.5v adapter so hard to find?
I have a Self Powered Radio 360 (it was made in South Africa) and it is primarily a hand cranked radio, but also has a solar panel that works with intense direct sunlight and also has a connection for a 4.5v adapter. It did not come with the 4.5v adapter.
The solar panel pretty much doesn’t work anymore. It has a rechargeable lithium battery that can last up to 15 hours if you charge it with the 4.5v adapter.
I cannot find a 4.5v adapter! i bought a used one at a re-store in Vermont but it did not fit.
here is link to the radio description:

Without seeing the power connector, I would guess that it is a regular “barrel connector”. These come in different sizes, so you need to measure the outer diameter of the socket, and then measure the diameter of the inner central pin (which is usually the positive connector) – then it should be relatively straightforward for you to go to Radio Shack (or look on Ebay) and find a suitable adaptor.
I just found plenty on Ebay, using this search string
4.5 volt adapter
likewise I found a solar charger on ebay with several connector options – Item number: 110445775595
