Solar Panel Attic Fan
Attic fan cycles on every 10 mins in cool, damp weather?

1st winter in a house built in ‘64 w/ solar-panels & central-air (compressor is in the attic). The attic fan only ran this much once or twice over the summer. It’s been raining lightly all day &.the weather-channel tells me it’s 64 degrees (dew point 61). Almost 11pm now & the attic-fan (NOT a whole-house fan) started kicking-on every 10 mins…the temp in the house appears to be 68 according to a relatively accurate digital thermostat (just warm-enough to be comfortable). Will a 4 degree higher (internal) temp trigger the fan? It’s not easily accessible so I can’t see the thermostat setting (no steps, just a crawlspace & I’d need a ladder). Just turned the heat down to see if that helps. I’m just wondering if it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to be doing…all facts considered. Sorry for the book…I also talk too-much : – )

No it should not be doing this. Most of the attic fan thermostats don’t go lower than 70F. The thermostat is probably gone bad.

It is probably not on it’s own breaker so you cannot just turn it off. Your only option may be going up into the attic and disconnecting the fan until you get a new thermostat for it or replace it. Of course turn off the power to the unit before disconnecting it.
